Story told by Ilia Mardov from Gotze Deltchev
My brother George, who is 6 years older than me got sick, and all visits to doctors were without results. My sister-in-law insisted that we go and visit Baba Vanga. So on July 10th, 1969 we went down to Petrich. The usual atmosphere – hundreds of people waiting in front Baba Vanga’s house waiting for their turn to see the prophetess. It was around 3 pm when Baba Vanga came out of her house and said with a loud voice: – There is one man from Kornitza – let him come.
For a moment I felt over-excited, as I didn’t know if she was calling me, or another man from my village. Apparently she felt my hesitation and said again: – Ilia Mardov – come over here!
I felt bad, looking at the judgemental looks of the other people, as I was entering before them – even though they were here much earlier than me. But what else do you do when Baba Vanga calls you.
She had a rectangular table in her small room, and under the table there was a basin where she disposed of the sugar from the other visitors. While she was touching my sugar she said: – I see Maria and Elena, they are asking for you.
Maria was my mother, and Elena was my sister – both were deceased.
Then at once Baba Vanga changed her tone, and said with such a compassion: Oh George, George…such as good man you are, a teacher…he is very sick…I see death – it awaits everyone, the difference is some are taken earlier, others are taken later.
After a little while my brother passed away. I remembered again my conversation with Baba Vanga. This great Bulgarian was given the extraordinary gift and right to help other people. For me she is a real Saint.
