Amenorrhea refers to the absence of female menstrual period, during reproductive age. Typically there are two types of amenorrhea:
Primary Amenorrhea
Menstruation does not occur during puberty age. Essentially primary amenorrhea occurs when a girl, 15 years or older, had all normal changes that occur during puberty, but hasn’t started her monthly periods yet.
Secondary Amenorrhea
For women, the menstrual cycles have started, but then they cease to occur.It can both occur due to normal (natural), reasons such pregnancy (called lactation) or due to medically harmful reasons. Doctors typically diagnose Amenorrhea when women who used to have normal menstural cycle, had an absence for at least 6 moths.
