Home Remedies For Mastitis

Eastern European Home Remedies For Mastitis

I. In the morning, at noon and in the evening 20 minutes before meals the breastfeeding woman should take 1 table spoonful of the following mix: 1 kg of pure honey, 300 g of walnuts, made into pulp, 100 g of peeled garlic cloves, boiled on steam and mashed, and 50 g dill seed, finely ground. Before each dose, shake well because it precipitates.

II. Ten minutes after that mix, drink 1 small glass of 75 ml decoction of 3 table spoonfuls of ordinary nettle roots and 2 table spoonfuls of chicory roots and oats grains, cleaned in advance and washed with cold water – boil them in  2 l of water on low heat for 20 minutes, after that add 5 table spoonfuls of the following mix: agrimonia, pine tips, Iceland moss, Morus alba leaves, walnut leaves, spirea and rosopasat  (Fumaria officinalis)  – 50 g of each; boil it for 15 more minutes and filter immediately. Drink with honey and lemon.

III. Two hours after meals, if you have inflamed mammary glands, drink again 1small glass of 75 ml of the decoction, given in point II. If the breastfeeding woman has inflamed mammary glands and a lot of milk, she should drink 1 small glass of 100 g decoction of fir tree – 1 table spoonful green needles and fir tree bark. Put them in   500 ml of boiling water on low heat and boil them for 10 minutes; when the decoction cools, filter it. Or have a decoction of   sage (Salvia officinalis) tea (put 2 table spoonfuls in 500 ml of boiling water; on low heat, boil for 20 minutes and when it cools, filter). If you have an acute mastitis, when the breast begins to suppurate, in a deep tureen make hot local (of the breast) bath (45°С for 20-30 minutes) with a tolerably hot decoction of  mallow (Malva sylvestris) through double gauze) and camomile – 5 table spoonfuls mallow (Malva sylvestris) (leaves and blossom) and the same quantity of chamomile; boil them in 2 l of water for 5 minutes; , when the decoction cools to 45 °С, make the bath – or with tolerably hot water, in which a bar of baby or toilet soap is melted. During the bath add warm water all the time so that the temperature does not drop. After the bath the breast is dried and the milk is squeezed into a warm bottle of 1 liter (the bottle is rinsed with hot water in advance and the nipple is put in the bottle). The bottle is like a cupping glass and can pull the milk out of the breast very well. Then put on the breast a bag of thin calico, filled with the following poultice:

1) warm poultice of linseed oil flour, boiled with a little milk, before you put it, sprinkle it with 1 table spoonful granulated sugar;

2) warm poultice of parsley (leaves, finely cut), 1 table spoonful flax flour and 100  ml of milk ; boil it until it becomes as thick as poultice; before you put it, sprinkle it with 1-2 table spoonfuls of granulated sugar;

3) warm poultice of fresh cabbage, finely cut, 1 bunch of parsley (leaves, finely cut), 1 table spoonful of flax flour and 100 ml of milk – boil it until it becomes as thick as poultice of linseed; before you put it, sprinkle it with 1-2 table spoonfuls of granulated sugar;

4) warm poultice of leak (its white part, finely cut), fresh cabbage, leaves of parsley, linseed, 15 prunes and a little milk – boil it until it becomes as thick as poultice of linseed, and finally sprinkle it with 1-2 table spoonfuls of sugar. Keep the poultices overnight.
