Eastern European Home Remedies For Pleurisy

Dry pleurisy

Treatment. Traditional medicine recommends the following:

I. In the morning, at noon and in the evening 20 minutes before meals, if you have a heavy cough and high temperature, take:

а) ½ – 1 coffee spoonful (according to age) of the following mix: cloves (Syzygium aromaticum) 15 g, cinnemon 15 г and nutmeg (Myristica fragrans) 15 g, crushed to powder and mixed with 250 g of  pure honey, boil on water bath for 10 minutes before that, or:

b) ½ -1 tea spoonful of the following mix: 500 g of onions, finely cut, 1 table spoonful of linseed and 1 tea spoonful of anise (Pimpinella anisum) (seed) in 1 liter of water. Boil for 20 minutes on low heat, after that add 2 more table spoonfuls of pure honey and 1 leveled table spoonful of coltsfoot (Tussilago farfara) and oregano (leaves and blossom) each; boil for 10 minutes; when it cools, filter.

II. Ten minutes after one of the above remedies, you can also drink:

а) 1 small glass of 30-50 g (according to age) decoction of basil (leaves and blossom) – 2 table spoonfuls of it are brewed in ½ liter of boiling water; add 1 table spoonful of pure honey. All boils for 10 more minutes; when it cools, filter; or:

b) decoction of hollyhock (Althaea officinalis) (roots) and linseed – 1 table spoonful each, anise (Pimpinella anisum) (seed) – 1 tea spoonful and freshly crushed mustard – ½ tea spoonful in 1 liter of water; add 2 table spoonfuls of pure honey, boil for 10 minutes on low heat and filter immediately. Drink warm because the linseed may turn into jelly.

III. If you have high temperature, two hours after meals take ¼ -½ tea spoonful (according to age), mix with 250 g of pure, boiled on water bath for 10 minutes before that, 1 leveled table spoonful of linseed and ½ leveled tea spoonful of nutmeg (Myristica fragrans) and Sal ammoniac in powder, and ¼ leveled tea spoonful of tartaric acid (cream of tartar), made into powder.

IV. Together with the mix you can also drink:

а) 1 small glass of 30-50 g (according to age) decoction of  1 peeled sour apple, 2 table spoonfuls of blackberry leaves and 2 table spoonfuls of forest strawberry leaves, all brewed in 500 g of boiling water; boil on low heat for 5 minutes; when it cools, filter, or:

  1. b) 1 small glass of 30-50 ml (according to age) decoction of agrimonia (Agrimonia eupatoria), hollyhock (Althaea officinalis) (roots), pine tips, elderberry (Sambucus nigra) blossom, hart’s tongue (Asplenium scolopendrium), sage tea, horehound (Marrubium vulgare), coltsfoot (Tussilago farfara), oregano and liquorice – 30 g of

each; of that mix  put 2 table spoonfuls in 500 ml of boiling water, add 1-2 table spoonfuls honey and boil on low heat for 10 minutes; when it cools, filter.

 

Wet  Pleurisy

I. In the morning, at noon and in the evening 20 minutes before meals, take 1 prune with a piece of aloe, as big as a lentil seed, in it (do not give to children).

II. Ten minutes after that, drink 1 wine glass of 50-75 ml decoction of twitch (Synodon dactylon)  (roots) and walnut shells. Fill half of a medium size pot with shells, and the other half fill with twitch (Synodon dactylon), pour on water and leave to boil on low heat for 30 minutes. Leave to cool and filter. Weigh the decoction you made, and to every liter add 1 g of Sal ammoniac (from the pharmacy).

Or 1 small glass of 50-75 г decoction of maidenhair (Adianthum capillus veneris): 2 table spoonfuls of leaves and blossom are brewed in  0.5 l of boiling water and boiled on low heat for 5 more minutes; when cool, filter.

Note. Drink the decoctions with pure honey, which boiled on a water bath for 10 minutes before that.

III. Two hours after meals to strengthen your heart, take 1 table spoonful (for children по 1 tea spoonful) mix of 200 ml of lemon juice, 200 ml of pure olive oil, 12 ml tincture of hawthorn blossom, 12 ml tincture of valerian (pure), 1 g of camphor in powder (dissolved in advance in a few drops of rakia (brandy) and 10 ml mint oil.

If you have high temperature, take 1 powder of 2 g mix of nutmeg (Myristica fragrans), made into powder, Sal ammoniac in powder and tartaric acid (cream of tartar) in equal parts (for children give 0.5g).

IV. Ten minutes after that mix, drink 1 small glass of 50-75 ml (half for children ) decoction of barley – 6 table spoonfuls,  corn silks (Stigmata maydis), cherry handles and twitch (Synodon dactylon)  (the whole herb with the root) –  2 table spoonfuls. Вoil  in  2 l of water for 20 minutes and immediately filter.
