For external use. In the morning, at noon and in the evening put some cotton on a stick, dip it in lemon juice and rub the sick child’s throat with it. If there is a danger of purulent tonsillitis, instead of a compress, you had better put a warm poultice of cut figs boiled in milk in the morning and in the evening.
Gargle – make it with a decoction of raspberry leaves. 15 g of leaves are boiled in 300 ml of water, add honey and vinegar, and the throat is rinsed 3-5 times a day. If you do not have raspberry leaves, you can gargle with salty water (in 1 cup of water put 1tea spoonful salt) or gargle with hot lemon water.
For internal use. Give
а) decoction of sage tea with milk – 1 table spoonful sage tea is boiled in 500 ml of milk. Drink 1cup of it in the morning and in the evening before going to bed, or
b) chamomile tea with honey and lemon, or
c) yarrow tea (Achillea millefolium) and coltsfoot tea (Tussilago farfara) (leaves) – 1 table spoonful of both is boiled in 300 ml of boiling water. Drink it with honey;
d) suck sugar candy; if you suck it for some time, pains and the difficulty to swallow almost disappear. Sugar candy is simple, cheap and pleasant remedy and it has rather better results than other less pleasant and more expensive remedies;
e) five minutes after you rub the glands with lemon juice if you have high temperature, drink 1 small glass of 50 ml (for teenagers and adults 75 ml) decoction of 1 sour apple (peeled and cut into pieces), 3 table spoonfuls blackberry leaves and 3 table spoonfuls of wild strawberry leaves. All boils in 1 liter of water on low heat for 10 minutes; when it cools, filter. If your temperature is not high, drink 1 small glass of 30-50 ml (according to age) decoction of St John’s wort (Hypericum perforatum), red cilantro (Eritraea centaurium), yarrow (Achillea millefolium) and gentian (Gentiana cruciata) – 50 g of each; of that mix 2 table spoonfuls are brewed in 500ml of boiling water on low heat for 10 minutes; when it cools, filter. Drink with honey and lemon.
Two hours after meals, if your temperature is high, drink 1 small glass of decoction of yarrow (Achillea millefolium) (leaves and blossom). 2 table spoonfuls are brewed in 600ml of boiling water on low heat for 5 minutes; when it cools, filter.
