Louise Hay: Forgiveness is a Gift to Yourself

“We don’t need to know how to forgive. It is enough to want to do it. The universe will take care of the way.”

On the healing power of forgiveness shared by spiritual teacher Louise Hay (1926~2017) in her book Heart Thoughts.

I forgive everything that happened to me in the past

When you hear the word forgiveness, whose image comes to mind? Who is the person or what is the event that you feel you will never forget or forgive? What keeps you stuck in the past?

By refusing to forgive, you cling to it and it becomes impossible to be in the present. And only from the present can you create your future.

Forgiveness is a gift to yourself. It frees you from the past, from past experiences and relationships. It allows you to live in the present.

By forgiving yourself and others, you truly set yourself free. Forgiveness brings an incredible sense of freedom. You often have to forgive yourself for putting up with painful experiences and not loving yourself enough to let go of them. So love yourself, forgive yourself, forgive others and live in the present moment.

See how the old bitterness and pain just roll off your shoulders, how you part with it and the doors of your heart open wide. When you come out of a loving space, you are always safe.

Forgive everyone. Forgive yourself. Forgive everything that happened to you in the past. You are free.
