Story told by M.T. from Krislovo, Plovdiv Province
I am a disabled woman – with level II of disability. My husband is healthy but my disability did not bother us to have a normal life. I really had luck with him – my first husband was disabled like me and died of cancer. When I was married I lived 12 years in Beglesh village. My father died young, then my husband, and 10 years later my mother also passed away.
Having lost my closest relatives, I decided to go and visit Baba Vanga together with some friends of mine. We took the train to Petrich on June 10th, 1992. We arrived in the afternoon, and went straight to the local hotel. Once we checked in, we went to Baba Vanga’s house in the Rupite village (few km from Petrich). The air was very clean and refreshing – it was very easy to breathe. In the morning we lined up in a long column – we were at least 100 people. Some of the people were waiting for over 3 weeks.
Exactly at 9:00 am, a black car stopped in front of the house, and Baba Vanga got off and entered inside. In front of her house there were many different flowers. On the side there was a big walnut tree and under it there was a bench and a table. On the table, there was a vase with fresh flowers, and near the vase was placed an icon of the Virgin Marry. After 10 minutes, Baba Vanga got out of the house and came to the walnut tree. She turned towards the sunset, she made the sign of the cross, and sat on the table. She was holding a stalk of basil. I was very thoughtful, and didn’t hear that she had called me. One of my friends “woke me up” and told me to go to her. I startled and now I heard that she is calling my name.
I got closer, and the man that was with her gave me a chair. Baba Vanga grabbed his hand, and stopped him from giving me the chair. For a moment she was staring at me – I had goose bumps all over my body. For the very first time in my life I had such a feeling – I sensed as if she was penetrating into my brain like an x-ray. My head got dizzy, my legs softened, and I supported myself onto the table. It was a great effort not to fall down or faint.
She reached over the table and grabbed my hand and said: – Come, sit beside me. I see that you paid for the hotel for 1 whole week. I want you to come every morning here at 9:00 am – to sit with me at the table. Do you agree?

I nodded my head, without realizing that she was blind and I had to say something so I confirm. But then – as if she just read my mind said: – Don’t worry, I may be blind, but I see with God’s eyes. Give me the sugar on which you slept for three nights.
I opened my purse and gave it to her. She touched it for a few seconds and then turned her head towards me: – What were you thinking about so deeply when I called you and you didn’t hear me – was it your mother? She is here right beside me, and is ready to scold you.
In this very moment, Baba Vanga’s face got a little yellow, her left hand started to shiver, her fingers started to spin the basil stalk, and…I heard the voice of my mother. I started to look around but I didn’t see nobody but Baba Vanga, so I started to listen very carefully.
– Why did you forget to serve one plate with food, and to leave it at the table, for God rest his soul – after you came back from my funeral? I stayed hungry the whole day. Once you go back home, tell your sister to slaughter and bake a chicken on Saturday, and together with a home-made loaf to leave it on the table – so I can take a bite. I have your father and your husband here with me. What do you want me to tell them?
I just said: – I am alright, and have a normal life. Then my mother went on: – Your husband is saying if you have found someone, to marry him, to not stay alone. Don’t forget what I have told you, as I will be waiting. Goodbye as they are calling us already.
In this moment, the colour of Baba Vanga’s face normalized, and she got her voice back. Then she said: – You will get married again, you will take a good and smart man and will have a normal life. You will not have children – as this is your disease, but you will adopt one. You will live until the age of 83. Do you want to ask me something else?
– Yes, is there God and afterlife? Baba Vanga said: – There is no God because this is how is accepted by the Government to be told. But I am telling you there is one great power that is moving and controlling this world. There is afterlife, paradise, hell, and reincarnation.
I will never forget those words. There were many other things that Baba Vanga had told me…over the years, everything that she said about me came true.
