Story told by Penio Popov
In 1972 my wife Bogdanka, had a surgery to remove a tumour in her head. In the same year, my sister Stoyanka also had a difficult surgery on the thymus gland. I wanted to help as much as I can – as those were my closest and dearest people. I went to many different hospitals, got in contact with famous doctors, but I haven’t found hope.
Finally I went to visit Baba Vanga in person. My sister was feeling a little better, and decided to come with me. We knew in advance that Baba Vanga needs sugar, in order to be able to predict our fates. We placed sugar cubes under my wife’s pillow, under my sister’s, under mine, and under the pillow of my son. He was stammering since the kindergarten, as he was scared from seeing a bear’s head.
We arrived in Petrich and started to wait with the hundreds of people that were there already. There was a man before us that was walking nervously back and forth and was regularly looking at the door through which you enter the house of Baba Vanga. In a short period of time, Baba Vanga came out and said: – The man that needs to know what will be his 5th child, because his other 4 children are all girls…as we speak your wife gave a birth to a boy! The man thanked her from the bottom of his heart, and ran quickly. On the next day he came again to give Baba Vanga a gift.
On the third day of our arrival, Baba Vanga accepted us. – The brother and sister may come – the brother from Ruse, and the sister from Byala.
My sister got in first, but I was near the entrance, so I was able to hear the whole conversation.
– What is your disease? – were the first words of Baba Vanga. My sister explained in details and then she asked: – Will I heal? My daughter will soon have a child – will I be able to help her raise her kid?
– You will, you will – said Baba Vanga. Then she told her few other calming words and sent her to see a doctor in Sofia.
Then it was my turn – Baba Vanga took the sugar cubes and asked me:
– Whose sugar is this?

– It’s my wife’s – I said.
– What is she sick from?
– He has a tumour in her head – from the left side. About 10 years ago, before she had the surgery, one colleague of hers, from the factory, hit her head by an accident….will she be alright?
Baba Vanga paused for a little and said:
– She will live, she will live – she said slowly, and somewhat dreamily. After few moments I heard her saying something to herself: Eh Bogadnka, Bogdanka where did you get this cruel disease.
I started crying, and she stopped me:
– Don’t cry now, there is time for that.
Then I gave her the sugar of my son, and now with a cheerful voice she said:
– What is wrong with your boy? He will be very gifted with skills and knowledge – he will have a good life.
I told her that he is stammering:
– In 2-3 months your boy will be entering puberty. The stammering will disappear on its own.
This is exactly how it happened.
Then I gave her my sugar and Baba Vanga told me to look after my heart and to wash myself regularly with water from the river. Back then I had a healthy heart, but today a have a heart-related disease.
While we were driving back home, I was thinking for all those predictions that this blind prophetess who had seen our past and future told us.
Once I entered my home, my wife welcomed me with the words: – Come here to tell you what Baba Vanga told me.
I asked her how did she know, who has told her? – I had a dream of her – my wife said.
I was astounded. Everything that my wife told me about her dream, fully matched with what Baba Vanga has told me in our personal meeting!
One year after, my wife passed away – only at the age of 36. Two years after my wife’s death, my sister passed away. I found out later, that Baba Vanga told our friends in Petrich the following: – Penio’s wife will die, and two years later his sister will also die.”
Obviously she hid this cruel truth from me, although she gave me a slight hint what’s to come when talking about my wife.
